Outdoors at First Steps

The governments Development Matters guidance states the importance and emphasis on outdoor play as an essential part of a child’s early development. At First Steps we have an abundance of outdoor space including 3 gardens, each filled with resources targeted at different ages. We have a combination of grass, artificial turf and bark to cater for all weathers and multiple different types of activities. We like to ensure all children are prepared to play outside every day, asking parents to provide suitable clothing and footwear for the current weather conditions.

Outdoor play is a crucial and exciting part of the daily routine in all our rooms, with children enjoying the outdoor facilities multiple times each day. We like to involve our children in seasonal outdoor activities to explore and learn about gardening, including planting seeds and growing flowers.
